The Author
Life for Travis Barrett has been…an experienced one. Already in his 24 years of life there are only 3 continents yet to visit. Australia will hopefully be checked off next and Antarctica should hardly count!
Some of Travis’ travels have been through the military, and some through missionary. Talk about eclectic! He grew up in a first generation pentecostal home in Minnesota. His parents habit of moving frequently has bred him as a bit of a loner who reads people well and adapts to change easily. It also fostered a strong bond between him and his mother.
As a child missionary he, with his parents, took two separate trips to India. He also participated in a group trip to Pikangikum, Canada, a reservation only reachable by small charter planes. It has a suicide rate among teenagers of over 75%. Those trips included stops in Israel, Jordan, and the Netherlands. He no longer bothers to count the numerous places around the US he’s been.
Shortly after receiving his high school diploma, he enlisted in the Marines. Initially, he was trained as an infantryman and basic security guard but circumstances led to being sent to Europe as part of an anti-terrorism unit. While the war in Iraq and Afghanistan was in full swing, Travis was one of only 200 Marines responsible for operations in Europe and Africa, many of which were very high profile.
After his term in Europe was complete, his skillset landed him a slot in a Scout/Sniper unit headed to Iraq. When his enlistment contract ended, he made his way into the civilian world with a respectable stack of paperwork and awards.
After a serious bout with alcoholism and depression, he found his way back to love. To this very day, his daily goal is to love and inspire the people around him. While life isn’t perfect and issues constantly need dealing with, there is hope in love.
His current battles mostly involve a fresh marriage, reconciling past with future, and finding a way to turn a skill set befitting a hitman into a ministry.
